"And some people say 'These people, they're not even trying to be British. They come here, they bring their own culture, their food, speak their own language, and try to take over the whole bloody place.'

Dunno. Sounds pretty British to me."

😂

@_thegeoff Try it over here on our side in America.

We were literally the "melting pot" country. We literally called ourselves that for a time.

But somehow through a long campaign of hate and ignorance people were taught that the things that once made us strong somehow are really bad and should be stopped at all costs.

@nazokiyoubinbou Annoying thing is the UK *is* that melting pot. We're a mongrel nation of original Celtics, various Roman/Viking/Germanic/Gallic etc invaders, and a whole wave of Asian/Carribean/etc folk we literally begged to come and help us rebuild after WWII.
We're mathematically brilliant, based on Arabic principles, astounding engineers, based on the Romans, yet some people with power seem to want to draw a line in the boring bit of the 1940s and tell everyone else to piss off.
@_thegeoff
The original melting pot was Italy and the roman empire. We got people from the different corners of the empire living here, and occasionally becoming generals or emperor, then we were conquered by everyone who was outside Italy, included Greeks, Arabs, Normans, French, Spanish, Germans. These are reflected on the genetic of the people living here.

@Imprinted @_thegeoff I'm seeing an awful lot of "so-and-so was actually the first."

That's not what that post was about. That post was about the fact that once this country *claimed* to be such a thing, recognizing that we all came from different places, but now we're pretending like only one group of people here actually belong and all the rest should be pushed out or even killed.

It's stating the obvious, but it's a thing that needed to be put into words IMO. I call out hypocrisy.
