Meanwhile in France the Left has had a good weekend, winning the Mayoralties of Paris & Marseille with Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally (RN) not doing as well as they hoped (and other feared).

How this plays out into the Presidential election is less clear, but it certainly suggests Le Pen is not necessarily the front-runner that many (most obviously on the Right) have been declaring.

Socialist Emmanuel Grégoire elected Paris mayor, as National Rally fails to take key cities

City hall veteran beats rightwinger Rachida Dati in French capital, while far-right RN fails to win Marseille and Toulon in French local elections

@ChrisMayLA6 (Obligatory comment about the French list system being complicated if you’re not used to it)
Grégoire quickly put together a united list with the Greens & LFI, and was successful.
Question is, can that be replicated on a bigger scale, or inevitably blocked by a centrist/rightist vote? Probably depends on pulling centrists away leftwards.
@BashStKid @ChrisMayLA6 lfi did not mix with the winning list. They've made 10% in the "second tour"
@nag4wika @ChrisMayLA6 Ok, my bad. I was going on Chikirou saying she wanted to put her 13% into a united list discussion. I wonder what went wrong?
@BashStKid @ChrisMayLA6 I know LFI kept their 3rd pos candidates where the far right wasn't a menace anymore.
@nag4wika @ChrisMayLA6 Any thoughts on how the Greens are doing nationally?
I’ve seen some comments that they’re going backwards in some areas.
@BashStKid @ChrisMayLA6 They've lost significant municipalities : Strasbourg , Annecy , Besançon , Poitiers and Bordeaux but Green (Europe Écologie Les Verts - EÉLV) mayor of Lyon was reelected (Lyon where far right hools are brutally harassing leftist people , it's a great victory in many aspects) ; Lille saw an EÉLV / Parti Socialiste victory ; Greens kept Grenoble , Marseille (Parti socialiste mayor Benoit Payan with EÉLV support) and Tours.
