I bought some cheap "Mitutoyo" calipers from AliExpress, and they're really good. The effort they put into making them convincing paid off. Would recommend.
@attoparsec@ancientjames I never understood why calipers are such battery eaters. Eve decent SR-44 are sucked empty after a few weeks of no usage. Why? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@peaceman@ancientjames It just takes a lot more effort to design an ultra low power solution. Real Mitutoyos use custom chips (designed here in Kirkland!) that no one else has bothered to clone yet. I think my pair usually lasts about 2 years between battery changes.
@attoparsec@ancientjames oh the real ones can even be charged!? Niiice. Still surprised that it is so hard. I mean, if they can't use a ultra low power uC, why not just add a slide switch? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
