Here is my lazy Sunday question for you.

I remain surprised at the number of instructors (and other professionals) I meet that never held a job outside their field. Maybe I shouldn't be.

Did you have a job that wasn't in your field? Summer, temp, whatever. Just working exposure to a different world than your professional one?

@jeffhorton I teach literature and philosophy, but I worked in biochemistry labs for three years and a psych lab for one year. I have also worked at a business magazine, a spa, a library, a bookstore, a coffee shop, and a breakfast restaurant, and I have taught diving, piano, and Spanish.
