Here is my lazy Sunday question for you.

I remain surprised at the number of instructors (and other professionals) I meet that never held a job outside their field. Maybe I shouldn't be.

Did you have a job that wasn't in your field? Summer, temp, whatever. Just working exposure to a different world than your professional one?

@jeffhorton While I have a career in IT my background was a degree in Political Science. My first "professional" job was media monitoring. I also spent more than 20 years as a volunteer ski patrol.

There are also my "paying for university" jobs working in kitchens and in oilfield maintenance.

@Chigaze I always imagined this is what most people did, at minimum at least the HS/Uni work part.
