Is the main reason people use #linux because they want to use old tech that windows doesn't support anymore? Or is it something else? Genuinely curious.
@twowheelsin.com the reasons are numerous. I left the Windows ecosystem after Windows 7 went end of life. I found Windows 10 far too invasive in terms of data they collect on you. Windows 11 was the final nail in the coffin. The fact that you need to supply a Microsoft email just to use your own computer, and you now rent software instead of buying it, means I'll never go back to Windows. When I need Windows functionality, I can create a Windows 10 virtual machine and run it inside Linux. Also, you can get the same performance with a lot less hardware with Linux compared to Windows 11.
@twowheelsin.com That was the reason I started using it. I didn't want my non-supported machine back then to collect dust and what has led me to continue using Linux is the operating system itself. I just prefer the workflow i have developed for my own computing needs with Linux tools.

Personally, I think privacy should be the default. And FOSS software ultimately makes things more accessible for everyone.

to me the main reason to use Linux is due to it gives choices and autonomy to set up the things as you really want... most of the time without profit interest, sharing knowledge and improvements for a common good.
@twowheelsin.com Linux=freedom from big tech.
