While waiting for our colorist to finish up our current work-in-progress short film, I decided to revisit my old project from 2022 (back when I was still in college).

I've been meaning to move them from Viddsee and YouTube to PeerTube anyway so I might as well touch up on some things like the framing and coloring.

I remember a while back that #OperaGX got accused of being #spyware. An exaggeration, I'm sure, but it brings into question the browser's #privacy policy.

It's kinda interesting that they decided to do a #Linux port since most users are advocates for privacy and #FOSS so I can't imagine many people wanting to install this browser.

But I guess it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it?

I used to get annoyed whenever my parents would struggle to learn how to do something simple on the computer.

But then my mother said that she was very patient when she taught me how to use a toilet, so I owe her the same level of patience when I teach her how to do something in the computer.

Point taken.

As much as #bigtech likes to claim InNoVaTiOn, the reality is that they just slapped a shiny new logo on something that already exists.

The #META #RayBan #PervertGlasses for instance, spy glasses have long been available for the sole purpose of filming people without their consent or knowledge.

No matter how they market it, they are knowingly developing tech that's primarily used for nefarious reasons and profiting off making delinquency more accessible.

Linux proves once again that old hardware doesn't need to be trashed.

Even in 2026, Linux Is Still Adding Support for Sega Dreamcast’s GD-ROM from the '90s

Linux continues to surprise. Linux kernel saw a new patch that adds support for Sega Dreamcast’s GD-ROM, a ’90s-era console technology that refuses to fade away.

It's FOSS

Microsoft deleted (deactivated?) the account of the maintainer of VeraCrypt, so he can't publish any Windows releases any more:

Gosh who knew the two most expensive things for this short film would be food and the legal requirements for casting a child.

Don't get me wrong, I think both are important. I was just caught off guard. 😅

I just want to share that this 27-minute #shortfilm was edited using #kdenlive, has an animated opening sequence using traditional hand-drawn assets rigged on #blender, and many of the film's graphics were made using #gimp.

Because of this, I very proudly open the film with text that reads: "This film is made using free and open source software."

I strongly advocate for #artists to care more about #FOSS. Not necessarily switch to it if they can't, but at least become aware of its importance.

It never gets old seeing what humanity can do with math and science while we continue to battle against our base instincts down here on Earth.

I know Microsoft was bad but jeez... Did they really think they could get away with the Ad thing?
