The US intervened in the elections. They sent millions of text messages to poor people saying that if they didn't vote for this guy they will not get remittances from their family members in the US, for one.

Then there was suspicion of fraud (and I think Starlinks were involved) but that hasn't been cleared up, afaik.

(And an EU delegation spent a month in the country to overlook the electoral process and went back home with nothing to say!)
