Plasma: high CPU usage whilst the screen is locked

<https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=293820>

Can anyone suggest a workaround?

293820 – x11/plasma6-plasma high CPU usage whilst the screen is locked

@grahamperrin This happens in Linux too. I don't think it's tied to FreeBSD.

@pertho thanks, which distro? Etc.

No problem here with Kubuntu 25.10.

@grahamperrin Void Linux

@pertho I double checked, it seems that Kubuntu uses less CPU when the screen is locked.

If you can discover why your Void uses more (not less), maybe you'll find a report of a bug that's not yet fixed in whatever versions of stuff that you use.

I did check for an upstream bug before making the report in Bugzilla for FreeBSD. I suspect that 293820 is a duplicate of 293368 <https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=293368>, for which there might be an errata notice (EN).

Whilst a workaround for 293820 will be nice, it doesn't bug me personally; the affected machines are for test purposes only.

293368 – Reads from timerfd return nonsense for a while

@pertho whilst logged in with the screen locked, the issue seems to be with (or affecting) kscreenlocker_greet – installed by security/plasma6-kscreenlocker.

I wonder why I didn't notice this when I made the bug report.

@grahamperrin Wow. Wonder if it's stuck in some kind of endless loop? 🤔
