bummed out because i thought i'd enjoy elden ring much more, but while playing i noticed i've been forcing myself to play it for the last 4 hours and didn't really have that much fun
it's a little odd because i loved dark souls 2 and 3. i can't yet put into words why i don't enjoy elden ring

i think one reason is that i don't feel like spending a signifcant amount of time "getting good" at a game anymore. i mostly just want to enjoy myself, and "getting good" hasn't been that enjoyable to me the past few years, although it has been part of what i find enjoyable in games before that.

one way this shows is how gaming has changed for me in the last few years: i stopped playing dark souls, osu, counter strike, valorant, and i stopped speedrunning.

@witcher woa i never really got how people enjoy games like dark souls or elden ring. im like always terribly bad at games like this, the only games i currently play, are games that dont need you to be good at it like storygames, this makes it so much more enjoyable for me

@fossdd that's completely fair, the more i think about it the more i'm thinking it's the same for me now. i used to like "skill based" games (or whatever you call them) a lot when i was younger, but slowly i've been less interested in gaming generally as well, and also more interested in the story that games can tell.

for instance, recently i really like the final fantasy 7 remakes and the last of us, although the gameplay loop of the latter is starting to get to me lol
