It is also a reminder that these people feel like this is existential, that they are in a fight for their way of life. It is deep-seated, and cannot be dislodged by facts or argument. This is how they justify everything, including outright war, sabotage, continuous disinformation campaigns, and so forth.
There is no 'debate', here. They are wrong, and they do not play by any rules of logic or reason. Any space we give them will be taken over, and lost to us.
Anything that isn't open resistance and ruthless condemnation helps them, and I wish more people would understand this.
Another example of the normalisation of far-right narratives is the trading of nazi paraphernalia. This has been going on for decades, but it's becoming increasingly easy to get your hands on it, and it has been showing up in more and more places.
This includes works by artists made for the Third Reich, which has been selling for increasingly high prices, and in ever-larger volumes, and the debate around museums organising exhibitions for it.
And there's assholes 'investing' in Third Reich art expecting it to be worth a lot more in the future 😒
Including this anonymous fucker who runs the 'German Art Gallery' here in the Netherlands, out of his own home, with a painting of a U-boot above his couch, and a Hitler portrait in his office.
For those unfamilar; there is no 'neutral', in this kind of Nazi-era German art. These are artists who were on the 'Gottbegnadeten-Liste', a list of artists who were endorsed by Hitler and Goebbels. Everything crafted and depicted served to promote the Nazi ideal.
The opposite was 'Entartete Kunst'; everything marked as 'degenerate' by the Nazi Party, and it's no coincidence that we see this kind of language once again from the far right all across the Western world.
They are, as the meme says, the same picture.
