Same question re. #UBports and #UbuntuTouch. Can anyone suggest which they prefer, and why? And which devices they prefer?

@wessexweather
I've used UBports UbuntuTouch on several different phones, and it's my daily driver. Currently on a OnePlus Nord N100: very cheap on eBay. For apps that aren't available for UTouch, I also run a selection of non-Google Play Android apps (from f-droid and apk downloads) in a Waydroid container, using the Waydroid Helper tool from the UbuntuTouch OpenStore. Even in Waydroid, my bank's app won't work on it, because it's a rooted device, so instead I just use a browser. It seems not possible to use UTouch for making payments, as you could with Google or Apple. The UBports installer is really great, but required downgrading the handset to Android 10, which required using a Windows-only download from Qualcomm, so access to a Windows machine is also needed. Once it's installed and running, though, #ubuntuTouch is super.
No experience with SailfishOS to compare it with. But if you didn't want the hassle of DIY flashing, you could buy a Jolla phone with Sailfish pre-installed.
@wessexweather Xperia 10 III is currently best and cheap way to try #SailfishOS. My experience with it has been very good and smooth. All my android apps work with it. My only problem with it is that sometimes it looses audio completely. This seem to be related at least partially to the android level you have when you install SFOS. And mainly plague Xperias. Besides that I haven't experienced any road block for daily driving. Note that bug isn't present in all Xperias

a few weeks ago i had to reflash, because the microphone wasnโt working at all, so i flashed aosp 12, but not every file was flashing successfully. then i immediately flashed sfos 4.6 with the recommended binary blobs by jolla and now it seems to be pretty stable. my girlfriend said audio sometimes disappears and now i applied your changes and since then there was no incidence where audio disappeared. it almost seems like a miracle
@wessexweather I used to daily drive UbuntuTouch on Vollaphone and developes several apps for it including Waydroid helper. I no longer daily drive it but have it installed every now and then.
My expierience with both is good. UbuntuTouch generally works for the core features of a phone. SMS, calling, E-Mail and Browser are more or less reliable. There is of course also waydroid but it wont work for banking. The GUI and expierience of UT feels outdated.
Sailfish is pretty much the same.
@wessexweather Really my approach to Linux phones based on Halium, which both are is that you should expect a somewhat "dumb" phone. It can do the bare minimum, but not much more and you will run into limitations and likely bugs.
I love the UT community and prefer lomiri (the desktop environment) more than sailfish. In terms of usability they are similar imo.
Also: dont expect an expierience similar to desktop, unless u go with postmarketos
