Not cool. USA was already supplying literal ship loads of weapons to Europe (UK) before the pearl harbour thing. They were risking U2 infested waters to supply essentials.
Pearl Harbour didn't even necessarily need them to engage two enemies on two fronts. They could've just gone after the Japanese and not bothered with Mr. Toothbrush Mustache.
America was not a perfect nation, but good men within their powers tried their best.
How many died because Neville Chamberlain dithered about?
How many died because the Entente did not enforce German disarmament policy despite obvious violations?
How many people died because of the revanchist Versailles treaty?
If you are measuring by perfection, nothing ever will measure up.
No, America was not perfect. It could have come sooner. But so a lot of things could have happened.

Also Henry Ford.
They were profiting from selling weapons. There was nothing altruistic there.
They could have made more money if they were selling to all sides then.
They lost good people and ships sending supplies and weapons to UK. On credit. They wanted to settle the accounts, but not make money up front. They knew there was a chance there would be no UK, and thus no one to settle the debts.
One of the reasons Japan did Pearl Harbour was because US had economically sanctioned them. They weren't able to get any rubber or oil for they resource poor Industrial 1/2
nation. They were looking at a collapse unless they acted and took over south east asia or all of china.
Now, the reason US had sanctioned them in the first place was because of the atrocities they were committing in China.
That was the reason they attacked US, to scare them into doing nothing as they pillaged all of SE Asia "Prosperity Sphere".
America was far FAR from good during those days. But America is many people. And they tried everything they could to stop them.
Iran didn't attack the USA.
The USA is Hitler this time around. The EU should be supporting Iran.
@newsthump And, as a Spaniard I can honestly say "fuck off with that noise, no one helped us. Everyone was comfortable with Franco in place.
Fascism wasn't extinguished in Europe, but it was in a place that didn't bother anyone else."
Edit to add: With all due respect to those individuals who came to fight for the republic, of course, there were many.
This is one of the reasons Orwell will always be my boy.
@newsthump Given that he started the war, wouldn't helping Trump be like having helped Hitler in WWII?
My memory may be faulty, but I don't remember Iran invading anyone, not firing missiles without provocation.
Trump has hit a hornets' nest with a baseball bat, and now he wants us to help him avoid being stung. I say serve him right.
@newsthump
And to be fair... Russia, who threw more people into the meatgrinder than anyone else. It's their MO.
It's funny/not funny how each protagonist plays themselves as the key to success. Russia, the brave bear, US, the mighty eagle, Britain, the fearless lion. These ancient, unsubtle and simplistic self aggrandising narratives feed nationalism for the hard of thinking and here we are with populism, Trump, Putin and civilization on the brink of a new dark age. And who knows what China's up to....
@newsthump
TWO nuclear powers with the most modern weaponry and an all dominating spying network, pulling the strings of many, if not most of the governments and businesses, with both a highly military worshipping society, started an illegal war based on lies (we kinda learned our lesson) to fix their poll numbers and stay in power to escape prosecution for numerous heinous crimes from fraud on an astronomical scale you cannot imagine, human trafficking, rape to murder (which their DOJ are totes fine with it).
Yeah, they made their bed. Fuck them. Hope their reasonable citizens have the power to kick these new dictators out and have them face actual consequences. Take all their assets and imprison them forever.
@newsthump
Not the correct comparison.
In WWII, the US helped Europe to fight the agressor of the war.
So, in the US-Iran conflict, should Europe help Iran? Is that what we should do?
