@Vivaldi hi! i just installed vivaldi and imported everything from firefox. There's one thing I cant figure out though - it looks like horizontal scrolling with a trackpad doesnt work for tabs. It's one thing firefox seems to do that vivaldi doesnt. I can scroll sideways physically on the trackpad and its way faster/easier to get to either side of my embarassingly large number of tabs. is there a way to enable that in vivaldi?
@Viss @Vivaldi Is this what you mean? Enable this setting and hold shift then scroll. I just tested it to scroll tabs horizontally and it worked for me using either a mouse or trackpad.
@tiydude @Vivaldi no, that option just allows you to do the scrolling, and you have to hold shift, and its very slow and doesnt scroll kinetically. if you dont hold shift, you have to put the cursor over the tabs and scroll up and down, and its also very slow and awkward. try opening like 30 tabs in firefox and scroll sideways and you'll see what i mean
@Viss @Vivaldi Oh, I see what you mean. I can't find a way to get it to go kinetically, but maybe using tab cycling (ctrl+tab) would work for you. Enabling Display Tab Cycler as List might help as well. Kinetic tab scrolling would be a great feature add!
@tiydude @Vivaldi i have an embarassingly huge numbe rof open tabs, so not being able to quickly scroll sideways kinda hobbles my workflow
@tiydude @Vivaldi it also rubberbands super hard. i scroll one direction and when i take my hand off, it springs back to where it was
@Viss @Vivaldi I tested with around 40 tabs without rubberbanding, but you must have many, many more. I'd recommend incorporating Workspaces+Stacks into your workflow if possible; those helped me a lot. Or heavily customizing Tiling may be more appropriate. Now, if you happen to know the tab or content you are looking for, there is a down arrow to the left of Minimize/Exit Window where you can search tabs. It is super useful. Hopefully it is for you as well.
@tiydude @Vivaldi it seems to only rubberband when i try to scroll to the left. when i scroll to the right its alright, but just not fast enough. and I cant figure out how to make the tabs more narrow. they're way too wide, which is one thing contributing to the scrolling issues. i tried going into the settings and resizing them, but it doesnt seem to visibly make a difference
@Viss @Vivaldi As I add tabs, each tab width gets smaller. Pinning a tab makes it a small icon. The only setting that can be changed (I believe) is the Minimum Active Tab Width, which only forces the Active Tab to be larger than the rest (by default). Maybe trying out vertical (left/right) tab structure would be beneficial. Can also try enabling Compact mode. Memory Saver to unload inactive tabs would hopefully make tab scrolling smoother.
@tiydude @Vivaldi ive tried all the tab options save the memory one and none help
@Viss @Vivaldi Wish I could have helped more. Hopefully you’ll be able to stick with it and an improvement comes soon. I moved to Vivaldi about six months ago and save 1 catastrophic accessibility issue it’s been great.
@tiydude @Vivaldi hopefully they read this thread :D
