Enjoying my morning at Smith Rock State Park. Currently having breakfast at the top of Eagle’s Nest. First time here and it’s an awesome park so far. Planning to hike all the major trails today on a large loop.
I spent the morning mostly on BLM land climbing mountains. Time to head up the rock. Not gonna lie, the trail looks intimidating from below.
I know some of you all love to do this but it’s a big no thanks for me!
I’m at the PCT trailhead at Santiam Pass and there is zero snow. I think I’m going to drive to a trailhead in the mountains on the northern side of the Jefferson Wilderness. A place I’ve never been to before. It’s lower elevation than here so should be fine. And the freezing temps in the morning should keep any ticks at bay. Still traumatized from that.
@andrewbriscoe
Sounds like you’re having a great day! Yeah, your previous tick experience sounded horrible.
Better luck on that this time.
@andrewbriscoe Washington is such a fine looking peak
@andrewbriscoe Ah bummer sad to hear theres no snow left on Oregons passes. Hope more comes before summer. Thanks for sharing, happy hiking.
@mountainmindset I found some snow on ridges while hiking but definitely low for this time of year.
@andrewbriscoe ...this all has great memories flooding back of a similar long weekend round I did back in 2019 (Little Crater Lake -> Smith Rock -> Bend -> Black Butte -> Santiam -> Detroit -> Breitenbush Lake <-> Park Ridge hike...) Good times (and luckily no ticks)! :)
@toxi That’s an awesome trip! Love this area.
