still find it pants on head crazy that, for phones that are starting to reach into the multiple thousands of dollars, that you're still not allowed to have root on them, and if you do, there are a great many apps that just refuse to work, or you otherwise have to trick to run correctly. And that anyone thought this was a future we want.

@da_667 'Mobile' basically managed to speedrun everything people thought(probably correctly) that MS was up to with 'Palladium'/NGSCB while they were still flailing ineffectually. And, ironically for the 1984 ad fans, it was Apple that got to the information purification directives and garden of pure ideology well ahead of them.

Anyone know who, if anyone, was talking 'trusted computing' earlier than Mark Stefik at Xerox PARC in the mid 90s?

@fuzzyfuzzyfungus @da_667 I mean the original Rainbow Series dates to 1983. I had a copy before I was out of HS. Because I was that kind of annoying nerd.

As far as I’m aware that is the source of the term.

How far before their public release the NSA was talking about it internally has never been clear.
