I’ve been having some trouble keeping up with mastodon as I acclimate to a new job in a new city, but I’m still enjoying it here. If anyone has questions about my process of moving from the US to France, 1.5 months in, send them my way.
@foon getting I guess the blockers out of the way: what kind of visa? how is your french proficiency?
@gravely I was hired by a company that sponsored an “extraordinary foreigner” work visa, where they attest that I have a skillset that’s hard to hire for locally. I had to send my college diploma to the French embassy as proof!
@gravely I can get by in French. Lucky coincidence: I’d been studying it for a few years before this happened. I am conversational if you’re forgiving, and I can certainly deal with shops and restaurants. However, in Paris everyone (particularly service people) speaks English so it’s not critical.
@foon social networking on the west coast - you wake up and half the news of the day has happened already. In the evenings it’s quiet. Social networking in Europe - nothing happened overnight but there are still things happening when you want to sleep.
