Hey, you, read those "Privacy Policy" notices on ALL hardware, software, device, vehicle, e-bike, anything you buy. Read them now. Look at this shit. Know what telemetry radios are within the device and what they will do when powered up.

This is a picture of a new 3D printer. Know what it's saying? It also has two cameras. Everything you own, everything you see, their servers. It goes on and hopefully it won't ask about any illegal genders in this room or down the hall. Read this shit and plan your disposition accordingly.

#security #privacy #Creality

"We hope you are not printing any illegal genders or automatic weapons, we have the entire video on Palintir's servers"

"Since you AGREED to our Privacy Policy and ALLOWING us to collect your passwords and passphrases, we are so going to SHARE that with our 2048 third parties and ICE"

"You may request to delete your personal information from OUR servers, but hey, the cat is out of the bag now"

I bought a new 3D printer with questionable #privacy policy. What is the first thing I print? An illegal gender. I am going to print all the illegal genders and pray that I do not print more...
@dianea
Print MOAR gender!

@dianea the sheer demand is is illegal to begin with.

  • The moment I buy a device and paid.for it in full, the manufacturer has to reliquish any ownership and control over it!

@[email protected] I refuse to buy such garbage and demand not only a refund but consider forwarding such illegalvterms.to cinsumer protection. - Since these wefe not disclosed in full in written form on the packaging before buying, they are illegal anyway.

@dianea I'm reminded of people being legitimately surprised that their Meta glasses were also phoning home images of them in private moments. They assumed they only sent private stuff about everyone else but themselves.

Yeah, this stuff goes both ways. Everyone has something to hide.

It's not ok that freaking everything does this now.

@dianea Holy shit. Unbelievably believable

@FeloniousPunk

I am going to sandbox this entire printer, software, and email alias unto its own VPN. Will I be allowed to use this device in Greenland? Let's find out!

@dianea @FeloniousPunk I'd just return it, demand a refund, #NameThemBlameThem and buy something privacy-respecting like a Creality Ender!

Fortunately, this device can be used air-gapped with a USB stick or firewalled, using standard FOSS software, such as Cura. The Arch Linux AUR has a copy of the Creality Print software too.

@dianea @kkarhan Key words: β€œcan be”. Laziness is a hell of an enabler.

@dianea @FeloniousPunk I'd mandate that my shit works without any internet connectivity out of the box.

  • If it doesn't then I won't buy it!

Also, Always ALWAYS read the list of permissions demanded by any app[lication] *prior* to installing it on your phone.

@fdroid lets you filter applications by "anti-features" which goes a long way to to help with deciding what to install. Pretty sure that's one of the primary reasons Google wants to lockdown how you're allowed to install things. If they can't exploit your data, they can't turn you in to a commodity.

@dianea Would it be Ok for you if I copied this information to a 3d-Printing Discord IΒ΄m on?

@dianea
In the 'good ol' days, we owned our shit.

Then the manufacturer insisted on owning our shit, even though we paid for it.

Now the manufacturer wants to own us too! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

@dianea Here I expected it was going to be a Bambu printer...
