A Russian disinformation campaign is making AI fakes of celebrities to spread false claims about Ukraine arming Iran with US weapons

The operation, dubbed "Matryoshka" (Russian nesting doll), is aimed at undermining support for Ukraine. To do it, Russians use Cameo, a website where people can request personalized messages from celebrities. Then, deep fakes are generated from the small pieces of video.

@Free_Press lol who is this Lohan person and are we sure they bothered to deepfake and not just pay them to say it? Nigel Farage? no he really did just say it for $500, also famously said 'Up the RA' and other fairly questionable utterances.

@Free_Press The best countermeasure would be for the celebrities who have been misused, would be to share statements of support for Ukraine on their social media, in which they also briefly distance themselves from the fake videos
