Jokes aside, I still can’t believe the disaster in that image. I’m pretty sure I could have done a better job with that painting, and I’m far from qualified for that job.
What’s wild is that they’ve decided to keep “monkey jesus” for its cultural significance. The painting could be professionally restored but it will remain that way forever
It’s widely agreed upon that the original fresco was not particularly valuable. It’s not like somebody messed up the Mona Lisa or a Rembrandt. If I ever happen to be in the area, I’m definitely going to see the thing in person. It’s become quite a tourist magnet, and the village is happy about it.
It was also a work in progress. This was just meant to be colour blocking before details were added.
