Woooow #Daddario 's Player Circle program is officially not worth it. Accumulate enough points to order a pack of strings? JUST KIDDING, pay us $13 for shipping :D Mother fucker I can get them for $8 with free shipping from pretty much any retailer. Suck my ass.
@wrathoskvro
I wonder if something’s changed what with all the “developments” since early 2025? I got a couple clip-on tuners for points a while ago, I don’t remember any fuss.
@geoffduncan I suppose. I added points today and was looking around to see what I could get and then I noticed the shipping cost. Heeelll to the no.
@wrathoskvro
I don’t remember any shipping costs, but it’s been a while. Seemed like a lot of points but I think they were straight-up free.
@geoffduncan There weren't any shipping costs. Until welp, I checked today.
@wrathoskvro
(Heavy sigh) So now the points really have no point, I guess.
@geoffduncan Pretty much. I wasn't a huge D'doodio fan to begin with (not that I dislike em or anything) but now I have even less incentive to buy them. lol I most of the time default to Ernie Ballsack or Stringjoy depending on the gauge I want

@wrathoskvro
I've used D'Addario stainless strings on electric guitars (I have a nickel allergy) for a long time because they're consistent and widely available when traveling, so I'd accumuated a bunch of points and never thought about them.

I was looking for a clip-on tuner that, basically, wasn't a Snark, bought one that was perfectly fine except the way the clip worked you couldn't hide it behind a headstock without the display being upside down. I asked around a little and one of the Gretsch folks recommended these tiny D'Addario clip on tuners, so I checked my points and—hey! I could try one for free! So I did, and they're quite good. I eventually ordered a second (still free!) because they're small enough one tends to forget about them and case them up with a guitar. Then, when you're using another guitar and need a tuner you can't find one.

Any chance you've tried the Ernie Ball Cobalt Slinkies? Another nickel-allergy person says those work fine for him, but I haven't tried any yet.

@geoffduncan Yep I have tried the Cobalts. A wee bit rougher on the fingers (doesn't bother me) they have a boosted mid range frequency so they cut through a mix great, almost has an effect as if your pickups are slightly hotter. Some of my guitars don't get along with them though, I had issues recording with them in the past (nasty/weird overtones, issues intonating, etc). But they are def worth a try regardless. When the guitar gets along with em they're great.
