Everything about chat control, age verification, border security etc. has me feeling paranoid again

Giving Kagi another try, gonna install Graphene OS, will make some small moves to de-Googling, full disk encrypt all the things. What other paranoia-maxxing meaures should I take?

Also downloaded #Matrix. Any groups I should join?

@jenbanim do you happen to enjoy bootleg toys?

#chinafakes:chat.bluepixelcomputing.com :P

@jenbanim Matrix is cool but seems there's almost nothing happening on there except open source related chats.
@anji that's classic lol. I remember the early days of Mastodon where the only thing people talked about was Mastodon itself
@jenbanim It amazes me how needed and desired a service like matrix is while being terrible/disjointed/confusing. Hell I feel like I see people dunk on their cryptography on mastodon monthly
@jenbanim against the grain but dumb phone for your daily driver (with a home smart phone for like bank apps and shit)
@jenbanim it may be a drop in the bucket but I still feel good about paying cash for everything I can.
@jenbanim I wish we had more options for phone OSs that were actually usable by the average person. I feel like the only way we're getting true privacy back is through legislation, but our politicians are so bought and paid for by corporations that I'm not sure that will ever happen.

@LithiumRyanBattery I'll have to report back but Graphene OS seems reasonably usable

But yeah absolutely. Installing a custom OS is a poor substitute for laws that aren't stupid. Feels like all this nonsense just came out of nowhere and was implemented before anyone could even notice

@jenbanim I've been doing everything I can to make my Android more private. I'm using Kagi search and DuckDuckGo browser, and I've switched off as many ad and data settings as I possibly can.
@jenbanim install @e_mydata, it's popular and it's made for people coming from Google and Apple, helping them with good default app and a syncronised cloud if you need it.
Plus it can run on a lot of phones, even old pixel not supported anymore

Smartphone Selector

@jenbanim don't, GrapheneOS is not degoogleing, you will still need some proprietary code from Google, better try @e_mydata who is running on more phones, is better at degoogleing and who is talking measures to stop Google and Third party trackers
