What are we to make of the fact that there is only one candidate for next Debian Project Leader?

Seems like no one else wanted the job, and although Sruthi has been a candidate before, they have never held the position before.

It has always seemed like a fantastically hard job to me.

Debian Project Leader Elections 2026: Candidate

There seems to have been a flurry of extremely uninformed and unhelpful posts to debian-vote on this subject in the last 24 hours. Has the matter of the single candidate election been posted to some Linux news site?
Ah I see L*nd*ke has posted a typically unhinged hit piece that begs for brigading and seems to be getting it.
On the bright side, I would expect that sort of thing to drive down the number of "None of the Above" votes, but on the sad side it's all done to drive clicks so it's not even like L*nd*ke cares about that.

I'm a bit saddened to see some Debian Developers getting sucked in to the concern trolling and actually suggesting that Sruthi "could" withdraw to force a new election. I would have hoped they could see that this is not a fair thing to suggest to someone who has complied with all the rules, and again begs the question why this is suddenly an issue this time.

Re: lack of candidates 2026 leader election

bleh, there's no situation that can't be made worse by some P*c*ck sock puppets I guess.

Nice one Héctor

"I would like you to know, since I was the one doing late nomination, that Sruthi got all my support."

Re: lack of candidates 2026 leader election

@grifferz be even worse if they force a rerun and noone volunteers after all the brigading.

@daubers
Just the pearl clutching over this particular candidate is a very bad look, I would have hoped Developers would have been able to see through that. I'm sure most of them can.

I fear that what's seen might only be the tip of the iceberg for the unequal treatment Sruthi will get during her term.
