Every week, I drop off my food waste at the community gardens, to be turned into compost. I show my scraps the compost bin so they know where they’re going, then they join their buddies in the barrel. I like to think it’s an exciting journey. I also like to see other people’s food scraps, because I’m nosy like that. Someone clearly has a grapefruit tree and I need to be friends with them.
citrus shell do not belong into compost, they never break down because of the wax.
They actually do break down, and can be used in compost here - in moderation. This is one bin of seven at one facility of twelve across the city, so these will be well mixed.
