throwing this out into the void: does anyone know of a way to do some very simple POTS -> IP telephony for two sites?

My parents have the landline number I grew up with, but very rarely use it, and live about a mile from me. What would I need to plug into the wall there, and then ... vpn to my home newtork ??? ... to ring phones in my house #asterix
