It's still a mystery where the money went, someone should follow this up 🤔
Apparently VRChat's funding has been $100 million so far, whereas Meta's Metaverse was $80,000 million.
Why did Meta's 3D world cost 800 times more than VRChat's?
Hmm... maybe this is a "Producers" scenario? 😆
@404mediaco With this level of automation, it feels like we’re heading toward a platform where AI moderates AI… and eventually, only AI content remains. AI moderation has become so aggressive that even people providing real context get banned.
After a ban, there’s no real appeal — most contact channels are gone. In the EU, some efforts try to address this, but users still don’t know why they were banned.
And honestly — who wants to live in a virtual world like that? Remember Second Life?
Virtual reality, like 3D, was never going to be much more than a gimmick, easily tossed aside, especially if it was underwhelming and cost money. Even the cyberpunks didn't see VR as more than a metaphor for an unrealizable future of corporate dominance, and "ICE" was security software, not a bunch of goons IRL.
The real question is whether with the crapware version dying there's space for a community version, even a fedi version?
