new rule: If it can say no to you, you don't own it.
people: Can say no, you don't own them
bandsaw: safety guards can be worked around, can't really say no in a meaningful way. You own it.
mobile phone: Tells you no repeatedly. You don't own it.
secondary rule: If you can't say no, you don't own it.
@emily_s
Cat: Cannot say "no" verbally, but will scratch and hiss and scoff at you. You don't own a cat.
Human (from cat's perspective): Human exists to feed and shelter you. Human can't help but saying "yes of course" when you meow and purr. Cat owns human.
@emily_s Safety guards are less of a "no" and more of a "are you sure?"
@emily_s it is for this reason that i don't own a copy of 2 Unlimited's "No Limit"

@emily_s @airtower Where do things that CAN say no, but out of necessity the no must be ignored, fall?

Thinking mostly of, like, trying to put a cat in a carrier with this.

@Mhera @airtower tricky... Somewhere around the safety guards on powertools. "I don't like this but you can force it if you have to"

But also there was another reply earlier that mentioned the cats owning humans

@emily_s Cassette tape player with a tape inside that plays a voice saying no when you press play.
🤡
@emily_s also a big red flag is if a tool says the words "remind me later"
@JennyFluff especially if the only other option is "yes"
