EDIT: Issue has been resolved by a bug fix to libexiv2 in Ubuntu-based distributions)

In the past few days (with a few system updates in the meantime) Gwenview has crashed when trying to open png and jpg graphics.

I don't think it is an issue internal to Gwenview. I installed qimgv as a recommended viewer, and it fails as well. Something in Qt related utilities?

Anybody know what's going on?

(running Kubuntu 24.04)

@Algot can you run either under gdb to catch the fault and see which library is responsible?

@oblomov

The issue has been resolved, thanks.

@acrux reported that Ubuntu-based distros had a bug in libexiv2 which has since been fixed.

@Algot @acrux Interesting. I remember an ancient Ubuntu release had a similar issue due to a bug in a JPEG decoder library. Interesting that this kind of errors keep reappearing from time to time.

@oblomov @acrux

I was impressed that the fix was made within days and pushed out to the updater. My image workflow was only briefly disrupted.

FOSS rocks!
