Why systemd is dealing with age verification stuff?

For those who don't know Meta is behind this OS level age verification stuff so they don't have to implement it within their own apps, like IG, FB, and WhatsApp. They are a truly evil mega corp out there that is pushing this and lobbying for things like age verification, ID verification, and KYC at OS level. They spent so far 2 billion dollars to make this legal thing. https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/reddit-user-uncovers-behind-meta-154717384.html
Reddit User Uncovers Who Is Behind Meta’s $2B Lobbying for Invasive Age Verification Tech

Meta funneled $2B through nonprofit shells to push age verification laws targeting Apple and Google while exempting its own platforms from surveillance...

@nixCraft Aren't they themselves OS providers with HorizonOS (or whatever their quest VR glasses use)

So they'd STILL have to do it, what irony.

@nixCraft

yup. meta want identity verification for PII collection. nothing to do with protecting kid.

@nixCraft

…so they don't have to implement it within their own apps…You underestimate the appeal of forcing would-be marketing-targets reveal even more about themselves. I mean, age-group is a really useful marketing-target.

@nixCraft We are much better off having OS vendors provide age verification than having every app do it. They would all outsource it to Meta or someone similar. We would end up having to maintain accounts with the verifier, giving them all the data, and depending on them to use our apps.

@shac @nixCraft sorry no .

I would just NOT use any app that wants to do it.

Now with systemd implementing it we're FORCED to eat this shit.

Next step is chrome and firefox sending that automatically to every site.

Next next step is firefox and google refusing to even start if the info is not available.

@shac @nixCraft having OS level signals telling the entire internet which PCs are being used by children actively makes children more unsafe. Its delusional to think only "verified" and not malicious applications will be able to ping it.
@nixCraft so, what can we do about it?
