@ami_angelwings
4, 5 & 6 make a nice little trip with the possibility of all 3 being in play at the same time.
@Steveg58 yeah some of these have definitely overlapped in stories, the 3 you picked out is basically the twist to Dragon's Dogma
@ami_angelwings
Oh? Have you been selecting plot points from games and graphic novels then?
It is the kind of thing that would totally escape me. đŸ˜…
@Steveg58 i'm usually thinking of at least a few specific examples from various media whenever I make a choice
@Steveg58 I was thinking of Dragon's Dogma and to a lesser degree, Madoka, when I did 5, I was thinking of Final Fantasy X and Star Wars when I did 6 but it also applies to Dragon's Dogma I realized after, in 4 I was thinking of Crying Suns, The Dark Tower, and Yuuki Yuuna is a Hero (amnesiac, having done this before in that case, it's what the etc is for)
@ami_angelwings @Steveg58 #YuYuYu is a very underrated show IMO. It took a couple of viewings before I really appreciated what the 2nd and 3rd seasons were doing, but in the end, very satisfying resolution.
@arcadiagt5 @Steveg58 i like that they were openly critiquing the "magical girl snuff" genre that came post-Madoka and talked about how sacrificing little girls (maiden sacrifices) have been a thing in many societies, in the story they're talking about using little girls as soldiers, but in the meta sense about taking cute girls and torturing and killing them for the audience enjoyment became a popular genre post-Madoka
@arcadiagt5 @Steveg58 I also like how all the characters reflected different motivations that go into becoming a soldier and that are involved in militiarized discourses, like nationalism, professionalism, loyalty, family, the desire to be a hero, etc
@ami_angelwings @arcadiagt5
Yeah I always had a problem with shows like Madoka. I don't recommend watching Clockwork Orange but once you have seen it it becomes difficult to see shows like Madoka and Handmaids Tail as anything other than dog-whistling to misogynists.
@ami_angelwings @Steveg58 Yeah, there’s a definite sense that #YuYuYu is actively deconstructing Madoka, and critiquing its viewpoint. I think that there are still criticisms of YuYuYu to be made in terms of the handling of disabilities, especially at the end of S1, but overall I think I like the general message of YuYuYu better than that of Madoka.
@arcadiagt5 @Steveg58 yeah the thing with disabilities is troubling but kinda understandable in that they were talking about them in the context of war but it gets complicated by them also being school kids and it starting out with it seeming very disability inclusive
@ami_angelwings @Steveg58 That’s a fair assessment I think.
@ami_angelwings @Steveg58 HMMM. Looks like #CrunchyRoll have lost S1 of #YuYuYu. I think everything is still on #HiDIVE though…
