New Study Finds Biochar’s Climate Benefits May Diminish Over Time in Acidic Soils

Biochar, a carbon-rich substance derived from biomass pyrolysis, has been widely regarded as a transformative tool for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural soils. The promise of its

@Snoro
I thought the effect of biochar on N2O was a more speculative possible benefit of biochar application - with recalcitrant carbon + increase in carbon drawdown into soil and plants the major climate benefit?

Interesting that it shifts soils into a more fungal dominant state. This is exactly what we want to rehabilitate damaged, bacterial dominated soils into more productive ecosystems.

More evidence of benefits for forestry. And the N2O reduction in composting is still important.
