Edgar Burroughs created Tarzan and John Carter of Mars, two of the most enduring figures in early science fiction. His Barsoom novels, starting with A Princess of Mars in 1912, defined planetary romance and inspired generations of SF writers and filmmakers. He wrote nearly 70 novels.
