Paris now has a cycling network bigger than Amsterdam and “more daily trips in Paris are now made by bike than by car”. https://www.economist.com/europe/2026/03/12/in-pariss-mayoral-race-its-drivers-against-cyclists
In Paris’s mayoral race, it’s drivers against cyclists

A decade of greening leaves the capital less congested but more divided

The Economist
@kottke Smart drivers vote for other drivers to be facilitated so they drive less
@kottke Paris has ten times the population of Amsterdam though... how are the per capita figures?
@kottke le prochain objectif c'est d'avoir la même part modale pour le vélo qu'à Amsterdam ?
@kottke The quality and the capacity of the cycling network is nothing like Amsterdam's though, many of them are quite old and built on 90's French standards ie. not well separated from motor traffic or pedestrians and not wide enough for overtakes.
@kottke now I just can wish cycling networks also between cities-towns, some people are fit enough to do long distances but the road is always blocked and exclusive for cars.
