EVERYONE, no matter your political ideology, should be freaking out about widespread #elections interference THIS YEAR. Not the made up scourge of non-citizens voting, but the #voterID #SAVEAmericaAct which would require a birth certificate/passport to vote. It will disenfranchise millions of eligible citizens, especially #seniors, #POCs, #students & low‑income voters, deepening turnout gaps & #votersuppression. If passed it goes into effect immediately. #Democracy #news

@ErikaSumner Hello, interesting. Just to be sure to understand : #seniors, #POCs, #students do not have birth certificates/passports? What is POCs?

@alphabeta Great questions. Voter ID & paperwork rules don’t just ask people to prove who they are — they make eligible citizens jump through costly, time-consuming hoops to vote. Driver’s license/state ID cards are a lower threshold but 34.5 million adult U.S. citizens either don’t have one or theirs doesn’t show a current name/address. ID disenfranchisement affects the groups I mentioned more -see link. It’s a huge price to pay for a nonexistent problem.
