One of the things that The Stacks development in Buzzard Point, Washington, DC, gets right is the visual way in which the buildings are designed (in "stacks") such that the streetfront appears to consist of 3-4 storey buildings with higher rise buildings behind them. It gives the impression of a more human scale to the development, as if you are in a much older city, when in fact everything is brand new constructions. #urbanism #planning #zoning #architecture

' The full development will deliver over two million square feet of mixed-use space, including over 2,000 residential units, 80,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, up to 250,000 square feet of office, one or two hotels, and a 15,000 square-foot park along V Street.

Architects include Gensler, Morris Adjmi Architects, Eric Colbert & Associates, Handel Architects, DXA Studio, West 8, and Lee and Associates. '

By contrast, this is the soul-less, imagination-free dreck that is being planned in #Brattleboro #Vermont #VT as "workforce #housing" in a location that is completely isolated from the central part of the town, although it is within bicycle distance of a local shopping center. It looks like an industrial or office park, or maybe a motel, not a home, a town, or a city street. I have opposed this project from the beginning.
