It sounds very similar to the times Oracle took over MySQL. The community stepped up and created MariaDB. There have been other instances where an open-source project made major changes, and people from that project left to create their own. Redis changed its license to be more restrictive, which is something that pops into mind.

@simon OpenAI uses uv a lot internally so it will continue to be maintained. I expect the same for ruff and ty.
Some of the astral team may move to working on other projects though.
But the OSS tools won’t be abandoned because OpenAI itself depends on them.
