It sounds very similar to the times Oracle took over MySQL. The community stepped up and created MariaDB. There have been other instances where an open-source project made major changes, and people from that project left to create their own. Redis changed its license to be more restrictive, which is something that pops into mind.

As far as this relates to Astral, we will see. I think you are right that it was more about acquiring Rust knowledge than about the products themselves, which is more troublesome than the other way around.

@grahamperrin @simon if it is for knowledge, it means the knowledge will be siphoned off the current projects they are working on and used for new projects. Most likely projects that benefit OpenAI, not the OpenSource. The OpenSource will die a slow death.
I very much doubt whether I'll ever need the services of a trades union. I am, nevertheless, a union member, because others need the support it offers.
