When you were young & in elementary school, do you remember what subjects that you struggled with the most & why?

I'm just curious about this. Also, please indicate if you're ND or NT - when responding. Thank you.

@PhoenixSerenity The one subject I recall having a problem with was math, but only for a year or two. My elementary school was used to test new teaching methods. For a couple years we had these semi-self paced math cards that I was doing horrible with. I recall the struggle, but no specifics about why. Had some trouble in 10th grade with geometry proofs but then they clicked for me. I think it was the same in elementary school, not getting it and then something clicked into place. May have been help from my Dad since he was good with math. Otherwise, (higher) math hasn’t been a problem for me. I took Differential Equations on a lark and it turned out to be one of my favorite classes. Couldn’t work at that level now, it’s been ages.

Anything that requires rote memorization is a challenge for me. I need concepts to meld together into something cohesive. Areas reliant on that type of study may have also been a challenge then, but I don’t have specific recollection like I do with those stinking math cards.

I think I’m mostly NT with some ND edges.

@sigsegv Any tests with a timer made me immediately anxious & impeded my focus/concentration. I don't know about other NDs but I have very high sensory with sounds & the ticking of the test timer sounded super loud in my ears. I'd have done better with silent timer or not being told any timer was used at all.

@PhoenixSerenity I’ve had that timer related anxiety. And it gets worse as the time gets closer to running out. Brain keeps checking in with how much time is left instead of just staying on task.

I’ve tried pomodoro timer in the past. Didn’t like it.

@sigsegv @PhoenixSerenity My daughter never did well on any timed tests, or even finishing in-class seatwork on time.

She was finally diagnosed with ADHD, and we pulled her out of public school for homeschooling from 4th grade on. That's when she excelled, when she could do her work at her own pace.

@cherylgk @sigsegv Those timer tests were hella traumatizing.
@PhoenixSerenity @cherylgk A few of the board games I play have timers involved. Write so many answers before the timer run out. I’m realizing why I don’t think I own any like that. I do generally like the ones I play, but I rarely win. It’s more about the interactions though so the pressure is different. I enjoy seeing what others come up with and am fine getting lower scores in that context.
@sigsegv @PhoenixSerenity I love playing Scrabble and similar games on my devices, but I hate having time limits on the game, so I play against the computer and never use timers.
@cherylgk have you seen Rogue Words? Interesting twist on scrabble that I pick up from time to time.
@sigsegv No, I haven't seen it. I will check it out.
@sigsegv It looks like Rogue Words is only available for Apple devices, none of which I have.
