I also remember the meme that said you never truly know someone unless you’ve seen them deal with shitty wi-fi.

I think this is the way to test your potential future life partner.

"Live with a man 40 years. Share his house, his meals. Speak on every subject. Then tie him up and hold him over the volcano’s edge. And on that day, you will finally meet the man."

I don’t understand, what is supposed to happen?
It’s a quote from Firefly
It’s a quote from Adelai Niska. Ftfy.
Shepherd Book says it
They’re both quoting a (fictional?) author
Yes fictional.
Shao Yu*
Shan Yu I believe. I remember because it’s the same name as the villain in Mulan.
There’s ya go. That’s the one. 🤓🖖🏽
40 years?? I just learned you only need 1 date if you prepare well enough.
In this scenario I would 100% be like," omg please just order some tacos. You haven’t eaten today. Let’s snack and watch 30-rock".
Wasn’t that Xiao/Shao Shan* Yu?
I don’t think the attributed quote was real.
That doesn’t change the fact that the quote was originally attributed to Shan Yu by Shepherd Book, then by Niska, IIRC. If they exist in a fictional world, then attributing the fictional reference correctly only seems accurate. 🥴🖖🏽
Do I get to choose which loved one?
Hold hour horses there Walder Frey

My wife’s family was not as well off as mine, her older brother was killed by a drunk driver before I met her, and I held her hair back while she vomited when she got sick when we were supposed to be on a date.

I think I’ve got it all covered.

It took her longer to know me, but over the past 40 years, I think we’ve hit every one.

You’ve held her over a volcano?! 🥹

My S/O , an otherwise confident, intelligent, independent, strong willed and tough as nails bitch becomes an absolute monster incapable of caring for themselves when they get sick.

I love them so much.

This sounds like a pitch for one hell of a movie.
N - Nurturing dependence
This is something I’ve thought about a lot, is this really true? People say you don’t know someone unless things get bad, but like… if someone improves my life 95% of the time, but then they don’t get sleep or are having a rough time and they treat me really badly, is that 5% the “real them?” Idk just something about that doesn’t sit quite right with me.
What bullshit advice. Some people might wait decades to get married then.
Trauma bond be like…

Everyone loves to pick the most extreme circumstances to define a person’s character.

I rather feel it’s the opposite. You never truly know someone until you’ve seen how they deal with the mundanity of life for a few years.

The best advice I received, when I was still impressionable, was,“You’ll never truly know someone. And that’s OK.”
Woah woah sloooow down Mr fancy pants. I don’t crus the cyanide tablet until the THIRD date, okayyy?!?!
