@vileboss : your Molten Software share on #GlobalTalk makes a plea for Backsplash II, but the copy I found on the Garden works fine. If you tried to open it with Stuffit 4, you'll need to install Stuffit 5.5 instead. Annoyingly, a large chunk of the files on MG are compressed with newer versions of Stuffit, and Aladdin Software must have made a breaking change from v4.5 to v5+ when they were moving to PowerPC.
@theirongiant good call! I will have to take a look, thank you!!

@vileboss @theirongiant https://bluescsi.com/what-the-sit is really helpful for identifying what kind of archive you're dealing with and what's needed to unpack.

And https://restuff.jcs.org/ can do some repacking for you straight in the browser

What the .SIT!? - StuffIt File Type Detector

Helps you determine what type of StuffIt file you have and how you can use it on your vintage Mac.

@bakkus @vileboss - well blow me down, Olive Oyl! If that ain't the most innerestin' website I evah hoiyd of! *ug-ekekekek...*
@theirongiant @bakkus that's fantastic, thank you!!
@theirongiant @bakkus I was able to use the restuff app to convert to a usable file! Thank you both!

@vileboss @bakkus - It took me a minute to find what you were talking about. I had no idea that @jcs made such a thing:

Joshua, is the app working? I just tried uploading a known Stuffit 5.5 file, but nothing happened.

EDIT: Never mind. There's no obvious change in the UI when I have dragged a file in successfully. I just have to click "Restuff" at that point.

ReStuff 2

@theirongiant @bakkus @jcs oh yeah @bakkus linked that last night, was pretty quick to convert to stuffit v3
