Esoteric Ebb on Steam

Esoteric Ebb is a single-player CRPG inspired by the freedom of tabletop adventures. Unravel a political conspiracy with your goblin sidekick. Roll dice in tense encounters. Become a cleric of legends or completely ruin the campaign.

I happened to see it when I clicked on the Steam search bar to look for something else and the image seemed intriguing, so I clicked through. The description had me instantly hooked. (Read: Steam pushed it to me via inescapable personalized advertising [hateful stuff!]. Despite it "working out" in this instance, I find this method of pop-up advertising, interrupting a search before it's even begun, to be extremely disruptive [derogatory] to the point of viewing it as frankly immoral. I digress.)
Anyway, it's not just me. This game is getting rave reviews from critics (good ones!) and fans. https://www.mothership.blog/in-esoteric-ebb-men-talk-to-men-about-manhood-and-thats-a-good-thing/
In Esoteric Ebb, men talk to men about manhood, and that's a good thing

It does not shy away from the things many of us are always thinking about when we interact with others, like, “Who are you voting for?” and “What does being a man mean to you?”

Esoteric Ebb Review - Chaotic Good

This "Disco-like" RPG has a colorful world and sense of humor worth checking out.

GameSpot
I kept my wife up last night because I was laughing out loud at the in-game flavour text contrasting the political affiliations of the various character attributes.
I particularly hope @bcj and @iamed2 check this game out. ❤️

@spurll

Disco Elysium is basically the only Western-style choice-based RPG that has broken through to me, I normally have trouble with them and get stuck in choice paralysis

@spurll

I think the things that helped in Disco Elysium were:
* A character so incredibly different from me that I felt comfortable making choices I didn't agree with
* Very little designed to trick you into making a Big Morally Grey Decision which you think is justified but has deliberately-hidden consequences
* Silliness and multiple editorial voices from the narrator that show how decisions fit with aspects of your character
* Randomness

Do you think it's worth me trying Esoteric Ebb?

@iamed2 I do! It clearly takes a lot of inspiration from DE, and from what I've seen so far (I'm still really early) it ticks a lot of those boxes.
1. Character seems less well defined initially but there are clearly things that point you toward being a specific "type of guy"
2. Can't really comment on deliberately hidden consequences yet
3. Multiple editorial voices is definitely present: in this case, your six D&D attributes will comment just like in DE (though not fully voiced)
4. RNG rolls!
