Your AI chatbot may be stealing your conversations.

Many #BigTech platforms:
• use chat inputs for training
• store conversations indefinitely
• process data in centralized clouds

What does that mean for #dataprivacy?

We break it down 👇

@nextcloud "may" ... I presume your lawyers insisted on that phrasing? 😆

@nextcloud

Fortunately, I have the ultimate defense against Big Tech chat-bots stealing my anything.

I don't interact with bots and I don't use Facebook or its ilk.

@nextcloud

I am building an alternative to centralized big tech "AI" - a "Verein" based on a fediverse like licence building a network of individually run small but very capable AI servers- maybe you like to try the already worked out setup out (would be already helping ) and / or have a videocall on our coops jitsi server?

Greetings

@offgpt thanks for sharing your project with us! Always great to learn about new initiatives that offer alternative to Big Tech 💪
@offgpt @nextcloud Hey there! Developer here. Are you using Nextcloud's AI tools for this, as well? Would be cool to hear about your experiences :)
@nextcloud Were people meant to think the data they gave chatbots was private? Should I be surprised Google keeps records of search queries and Facebook keeps records of posts? Wait until you hear how "private" email is
@nextcloud Are conversations used for training by default and is opt-out genuine or buried? How long is data retained and under what legal jurisdiction? What happens to your data if the company is acquired?

@bayo Hi there!

Is your question about AI tools in Nextcloud? If yes: we are not an AI provider, and everything depends on the model or service you are using with Assistant.

On our end, we let people choose, and rank supported models exactly by those parameters: training data availability, open source code, ability to host locally. And you can avoid setting up AI at all, if you don't want it in your platform.
