This actually happened?! The Great Male Renunciation. At the end of the 18th century, Western men decided they’d no longer wear bright colors and fancy shapes. That would be women’s clothes. Men would wear bland dark boring fabrics. THIS IS WHY I CANT DRESS LIKE THE PROUD PEACOCK I AM??

Well f that. Theydies and gentlethems, today I announce:

THE GREAT MALE-PRESENTING RECLAMATION!

No more boring suits in dark colors! Strut like a goddamn king in bright colors, wild patterns, and shiny fabrics. Be the envy of other males, make them cower in fear at your sartorial splendor.

We’re bringing it back.

@drmaddkap

Good. Most of male fashion is a complete snoozefest.

@drmaddkap bring back colourblind designers so we have clashing colours being socially acceptable rsther than my wife demanding i go change into something that "tones"
@drmaddkap
Fuck Beau Brummell anyways
@drmaddkap yes please!
I at least twice a week complain to my wife that always when we are going shopping for clothes, I can't find anything because its all just boring and bland...
@drmaddkap Normalise Daedric Prince fashion
@drmaddkap Always be yourself, unless you can be shiny. Then, always be shiny

@drmaddkap

Your right to elegant plumage was restored in the 1960s: see "My Conviction" in HAIR, 1967

@drmaddkap I hereby renounce the renunciation! 🥳
@drmaddkap Oh, hell, dress line the fancy proud peacock you already are!!!

@drmaddkap

You can, but it marks you out as an aristocrat, or at least it does in the context in which this happens. Basically, male dress goes from "fussy and frivolous" to "utilitarian and simple" for a variety of factors. This also includes a return of upper class men, en masses, to combat roles for the first time since the 1500's, so you need to be able to get dressed in something less than a glacial age.

@drmaddkap Has the person who wrote the video seen fashion magazines in the 70s? Or fashion of non-hetero/non-white men?

Wild colors, patterns and shapes for men have been around. But what's considered aspirational has shifted.

@drmaddkap I don't know. These are noble. Their fashion have been banished because they oppressed people.

also, I'm pretty sure japanese men did wear kimono until like 1945. Most fashion option have been crushed by imperialism. Peacock noble is like the one exception.
