World's longest coastal path opens in England to the public

The King Charles coastal path will allow walkers right of access to the entire coast for the first time.

@RadicalAnthro There are one footpath and one guide post with exactly the name "King Charles III England Coast Path" in #OpenStreetMap. A few more with "England Coast Path". More to come, surely.

@Doudouosm exciting! Quite a plan, the whole walk.

@Doudouosm @RadicalAnthro About 2100km is already mapped in the route relation (with that name in the "official_name" tag since about 3 years ago).

I wouldn't necessarily expect more footpaths to be tagged with that name - as I understand it, it's a route name, it doesn't mean that the ways themselves are called that.

@alan Great. I was expecting OSM search would return named relations as well and was very surprised there were so few results, but I also know nothing about the history of this route, so it was plausible to me that it was recent. Thanks for pointing out. @RadicalAnthro

@Doudouosm @RadicalAnthro The default Nominatim search only finds named relations for a few specific types such as waterways - it's a long-standing discussion on Github. I usually use waymarkedtrails.org to find recreational route relations.

Include route relations in Nominatim · Issue #413 · osm-search/Nominatim

I'm trying to use nominatim as a search results provider but I can't manage to make it search for relations, am I doing something wrong or are relations not supported?

@alan @Doudouosm @RadicalAnthro In this case I suspect official_name is a euphemism, but I'd be surprised if the name value is not a consensus position.

Personally I call the new rapid transit line in London "Crossrail" for similar reasons. No doubt I'll have to change when no one remembers that name.

@RadicalAnthro
Still lots of bits missing unfortunately, and unsurprisingly lots of places where the path will have to leave the coast for considerable distances, but a grand aspiration non the less.

@Guy I think so. Would like to do a whole walk one day.
