I’ve been seeing people talk about a seeing a Starfield coffee machine in DLSS5 being some amazing thing so I went to go find video of it…

Here’s a frame from the video with it off and on. Off it looks like a normal espresso machine with normal espresso machine materials.

I don’t know what the heck DLSS5 did to it or why people think it’s an upgrade. The asset has been completely changed and the top half of the backsplash is gunmettle now? Not what an espresso machine even looks like!

I also heard people mention the cups next to the machine as being amazing!

Yeah I don’t know what happened there but those aren’t the same cups! The original cups have a white glossyish plasticish material that Starfield uses a lot.

DLSS5 seems to have decided no that actually should be glossy metal and stomped all over that.

How on earth are any sort professional reviewers looking at this light it’s some sort of next gen lighting system? This was the amazing part of the demo?

It also stripped all the very intentional and realistic coloring off the portafilter handle and just slapped on some more metallic metal because why not.
The nicest thing you can say about DLSS5 here is it added some reflections to the table from the cups that are a little weird because I’m not sure that table is supposed to be that glossy.
The weird thing is - at least for the materials - if that was the original intention of the artists they absolutely could have been rendered that way without DLSS5. The non DLSS5 scene is full of metallic textures. This isn’t preserving the intent of the asset artist at all.
