Has anyone set up a "has it slopped yet" list? I'm having trouble keeping track of which projects have gone that direction.
open-slopware

Free/Open Source Software tainted by LLM developers/developed by genAI boosters, along with alternatives. Fork of the repo by @gen-ai-transparency after its deletion.

@jeremiah

Thank you!

@RussSharek No problem! I wish there were 1) an easier way to contribute and 2) like an RSS feed or something to follow along.
@jeremiah @RussSharek There's a related project linked on the page that aims to provide the info as parseable data, if that helps.
@scheme @RussSharek I missed that. I'll go back and check.
@jeremiah @RussSharek What a distressing list! Thanks for sharing, though
@tarotbird It's pretty terrible I must admit.

@jeremiah @tarotbird

It's scary.

I was surprised to see so many slow moving 'boring' projects listed.

It's definitely guiding my choices moving forward.

@RussSharek

It's a signal. I will swap out the low hanging fruit. I will eye skeptically things that are more critical to how my computer works (like systemd).

@jeremiah

I heard someone likening it to a smell. :)

@jeremiah @RussSharek As a very aggressive anti-AI person, I support the message/spirit, but it does feel like a bit much. Will I stop using programs with LLMs built in? At every opportunity when I am able to. Will I stop using Neovim because it uses AI code? It's stupid that they did that and I'm really disappointed in them, but at this point I will bet money that any sufficiently large open source project has AI-generated code in it, and I'm not about to give up using Linux over this kind of purity test. Let me make this abundantly clear: shame on developers who use AI. It's a spit in the face to the environment and detrimental to the quality of your software. I have no doubts that the recent increase in bugs in Windows is related to the increase in AI used at the company. I just don't think dropping the use of every single otherwise good tool with AI-generated code is a hill worth dying on, and I'll gladly die on many hills. On the topic of hills I WILL die on: I actually hate OpenAI so damn much. Founded on the mistake idea that the AI we have today was inevitable, they became the only company that could've possibly kicked off the technology that has generated one of the biggest instances of backsliding when it comes to quality of information since like Facebook. A company that swore to be the "good AI non-profit" that sits there in the throne of a supervillain as the largest company in the space actively pursuing making a sexting mode for their chatbot as though it isn't parasocial enough. Sorry for the semi-unrelated bit at the end, I just felt I needed to redeem myself for sounding like an AI centrist for most of the post

Stop Microsoft Copilot!

Dear VSB: Please stop using Microsoft Copilot AI in schools.

Stop Microsoft Copilot!

@henry @RussSharek @jeremiah

For sure, no more donation to these projects.
I can't buy into this productivity BS need for FOSS.

@omar @henry @RussSharek

I don't think it's a purity test to merely add a label that says "this software was made with the same tools that the government uses to bomb schools full of children."

Much like recency of pull requests, downloads, sponsors, stars, whatever you have this is another signal that people can use to evaluate whether a tool is worth using for them.

If maintainers don't want to be on the slopware list, don't let the slop machine into the codebase.

@RussSharek replying so I get notified if someone else answers you
@RussSharek need an alternate one what's slop free and software developers are really not ok.
@tootbrute @RussSharek Ooo! Found this via the Codeberg link shared elsewhere in this thread: https://codeberg.org/brib/slopfree-software-index
