As a person who grew up in a place where we used the word “queer” to mean “strange” or “weird”, with zero gender/sexuality links, I can see the person meaning “weird traditional foods”.

Nah, not all. There’s two generations behind me, maybe three, who grew up/are growing up with the term being defined and used as lgbt-related only.

Just look at the other comments on this post. “Strange” was never considered as a definition.

It still means the same thing. I guess the comprehension has expanded.
