What do you think the real SCP-001 is? - Lemmy.World

I know this is kind of a pointless question because of how 001 is supposed to work in the lore and on the site. They could all be real, or none of them could be. But I’d like to know if you had to say which one was the “real” one, what would it be? I’ll start. I don’t think the gate guardian is the real one. It’s mentioned in other 001 articles, and while you could apply Occam’s razor I say I’m applying Hickam’s dictum [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hickam's_dictum]. I think there’s a good reason they’re hiding whatever it is 001 is. So what do you all think?

There are more SCP-001 proposals than I knew about. I thought there were 3 or 4… There are dozens and I haven’t checked most of them. I will report back later.

Pretty sure additional ones have been added over time, as my recollection was a half dozen or so but there are a ton now.

Stop reading them. SCP-001-Xs are generated by people’s knowledge of the one in existence in their natural timeline before being shifted to an alternate reality.

If you learn about the one in your natural timeline you become a inticing target for the SCP to shift you. Most timelines aren’t habitable let alone hospitable to humans.

SCP-001 is an apex predator and the reason for gathering all the other SCP. The entire Foundation is a hypnotic mirage that has convinced humans to find and capture the things that would normally prey on them. 001 has turned the prey into an instrument of predation like the first spider to use webs to hunt - a meta strategy shift in the evolution and development of SCP creatures. And the best part is that no matter how many SCP are captured, containment is always temporary. Space is always available for more and more are being found all the time.

And by necessity this is forbidden knowledge. Humans may learn that they are little more than domestic animals, herded yet safe. Knowing that at any moment the thing which protects them can turn on them. Humans must find more SCP to prevent any lean times.
