If that hidden track is so great, why is it hidden? If it's not so good, why is it on the album at all?

They ruined a lot of CDs. The half an hour or so of silence before getting to Endless, Nameless on Nevermind is a good example.

Thanks for that. I used to have a couple of those albums on CD (Ash and Pulp), but did not know about the pre gap.
Unfortunately my CD collection is now mostly in a box in the loft and I no longer have a CD player in the house to test them.
I got back into vinyl about 10 years ago, but I feel like I need to get myself a decent CD player again.
