Not feeling great today, so I'm messing around with a couple of quilt ideas instead of actually quilting -

This is the best layout I've come up with yet for the data viz quilt where each block's size represents the number of quilts I finished during the year

I haven't chosen a quilt block yet - suggest a favorite if you've got one! - but it needs to look similar at every size from 5" to 23". Would be nice if the math works and it sews easily at all those sizes, too

@inarticulatequilter If the log cabins don't work out, maybe an X block like this one: https://www.annemariechany.com/blog//2011/12/tutorial-simple-x-block.html?
If you went with white or lighter color fabrics for the Xs you could embroider the year and the number of quilts made.
Tutorial: Simple X Block — AnneMarie Chany Quilt Patterns

This is the block I used to make my Hello Sunshine quilt with Nicey Jane.  It's one I customized with EQ7 to be the size I wanted.  It's simple and elegant when paired with some great fabrics.  Here's a tutorial for the block in case you'd like to try it. Simple X&a

@Rayendal I worry that X might be too simple at the really big sizes? Though it would be easy to piece at every size

I found these in my block book last night - haven’t made a final decision but the pinwheel seems like it might be fun

@inarticulatequilter The easy piecing was what I was thinking -- and also the shape reminded me of those Red Cross fund raising quilts from WWI, when they embroidered the name of the donor on the block, although it was more a cross than an X.
I like the pinwheel shape block. That would be easy to piece in every size, too.

@Rayendal I know about signature quilts in general but I hadn’t heard about WWI Red Cross donor quilts before

If the Xs were wider and string pieced, I could see that working… but I think I might need a break from scrappy (believe it or not)

@inarticulatequilter Gotcha. The only other patchwork I can think that works in any size block is the half square triangle, which would maybe end up chaotic with the different sizes. Take your time and maybe make some test blocks when you're feeling better.
